DENSO
supplies four main components for the system – ballast,
auto-leveling controller, leveling actuator and wheel speed
sensor.
The
discharge headlamp system has a ballast that controls lighting
of discharge headlamp. The system’s auto-leveling controller
and leveling actuator use information from wheel speed and
height sensors to keep the lamp projection axis fixed in
the vertical direction, even when the vehicle is carrying
heavy loads in the trunk or accelerating or decelerating.
As a result, the discharge headlamp system does not create
glare for oncoming drivers.
DENSO Technology – Leading the World
In
2004, DENSO developed a ballast for the world’s first mercury-free
high-intensity discharge (HID) headlamp system that completely
eliminated mercury from discharge headlamps (bulbs).
The
newly developed ballast applies increased initial operating
wattage and operating current to the mercury-free discharge
headlamp, providing bright lighting and long bulb life,
equal to the conventional HID headlamp system. The ballast
is approximately 50 percent smaller and 25 percent lighter
than the conventional ballast, despite its increased initial
operating wattage and operating current.
